01

Detroit Roots

Keenann Knox grew up in Detroit with albinism — the first in his family. Before there was a pulpit, there was the experience of being looked at, talked about, and sometimes shunned.

That's not a footnote in his story. It's the root of it. It's why he builds spaces where people are seen for their potential, not their problem.

02

The Faith Journey

He was saved in the Walton Putnam lounge at Eastern Michigan University — not in a service, but by a stranger at a piano.

He graduated EMU in 1994, was called to preach in January 1995, and married Danielle Latrice Knox in 1996. Two years later, in June 1998, he founded Impact City Church with 22 people in his mother's basement in Clinton Township. Within weeks, the church moved to Detroit's east side — where it's remained ever since.

The Testing Years

On Easter 2005 at Finney High School, the church lost 60% of its congregation in a single season. What followed was a 3.5-year rebuild — the same length as Elijah's drought — before Impact City moved into its current 52,000-square-foot facility on Detroit's east side in the summer of 2009.

The final balloon payment on the building was paid off in 2019. Today, ICC operates completely debt-free.

04

Family

He and First Lady Danielle Knox have three adult children — Keenann II, Joshua, and Kendall — all of whom serve in ministry alongside them at Impact City Church.

Impact City Church

Keenann is a teacher by training — music, African American studies, piano, organ, voice — and it shows in how he communicates: rhythmic, layered, built to move a room without ever losing the truth in it.

He leads Impact City Church into Vision 2026, a season of renewed growth and citywide impact.

06

Media & Speaking

He hosts the daily PowerBurst broadcast — 6 AM, Monday through Friday, across four platforms — and is writing his first book, Ungoogleable Faith: a challenge to build a faith that doesn't come from a feed.

What I Believe

The church must be more than a place people attend — it has to become a transformational force in the city it serves.

“Higher is beautiful, but higher is expensive.” Growth was never going to be free — not for the church, not for the people in it, not for a city like Detroit. Real transformation is slow, costly, and worth it.

If it's not aligned, it's not allowed.
